THE MAD DASH IS ON

The MAD DASH is ON

Self-driving automobiles are ramping up. Nvidia introduced a family of AI technology aimed at autonomous driving, and all the major automakers at CES 2026 were on board for AI. “Every single car will have autonomous vehicle capability, and every single car will be AI-powered,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during his keynote speech at CES 2026.

You know where this is going, right? Fewer eyes on the road and a whole lot more entertainment on the dash.

We’re halfway there. HD Radio, RDS, satellite radio, Android Audio, Apple CarPlay, and all those streaming apps built into the dashboard aren’t going anywhere. The way we see it, those dash screens used for displaying back-up cameras are windows into new opportunities for radio.

Already, radio stations are a lot more visible on the dash and anywhere else there’s a portal to the listening public. Last year, about this time, we ran a short clip in Wheat News of a live morning show pushed out to the masses on a number of platforms (Click to VIP Radio, Hear This!). Throughout the year, we noted that stations were becoming more vibrant (read about RMR 89.7 in Now, This Is Visual Radio) and doing more with video (read When Reality Strikes for a look inside the WheatNet IP studios at Hubbard Radio in West Palm Beach). And, we continue to learn about new and novel ways to add visuals to sound (you can tune in to our Studio Master Class on TOC Checklist and Studio Trends at the 52:00 mark to learn about the latest in visual radios).

The mad dash to keeping radio and streaming relevant on the dashboard is most definitely on!
