3rd, and 4th Generation Wheatnet-IP I/O Unit
The WheatNet IP audio network is a distributed AoIP network made up of I/O units that include routing, control, and intelligence to manage all aspects of the busy broadcast studio.

Audio I/O And DSP Processing And Signal Distribution Blades
Wheatnet-IP Components
These fourth generation I/O units for the WheatNet IP audio network combine key studio elements such as audio processing, audio codecs, mixing, routing, control and operating system in one native AoIP environment. Included are optional Opus, MP3 and AAC codecs for streaming audio between locations; two 8×2 stereo utility mixers for online mixing or segueing between feeds; routable stereo processor with parametric equalizer, compressor and limiter for spot processing of incoming or outgoing audio; and 12 universal logic ports plus 128 software LIO ports for controlling studio elements and events — all routable through the network. Blade 4s have built-in OS for running apps and customized scripts for specialized software, metering apps and virtual interfaces, and can be ordered with add-ons such as dual audio clip players enhanced to play compressed or uncompressed audio files.
Blade 3 I/O units are versatile and intelligent AoIP access units that connect studios, elements, and control surfaces within the WheatNet IP audio network. Available in analog, digital, and analog/digital versions, Blade 3 units go beyond basic connectivity by incorporating a CPU and operating system, enabling advanced audio networking capabilities. These 1RU units can perform various functions such as routable mixing, logic-follow-audio, and more.
The MADI Blade converts 64-channel MADI inputs into data streams on the WheatNet IP audio network and vice versa, allowing seamless integration with intercom systems, TDM routers, ProTools, and DAWS that are MADI-capable.
The HD-SDI Blade is used for de-embedding audio from an HD-SDI audio/video signal. With the HD-SDI Blade, you can bring audio into the WheatNet IP audio network from video production automation systems, routers, and other professional video equipment that uses HD-SDI. This Blade is capable of de-embedding up to four HD-SDI streams, with up to 8 audio channels per stream.
The LIO-48 Logic Blade provides 48 universal logic I/O ports that can be individually configured as either inputs or outputs for complex logic needs of modern studios and rack rooms. The LIO-48 facilitates seamless integration with various devices by accepting contact closures to trigger network events or providing control outputs for external equipment.
The EDGE Blade is designed to facilitate the integration of IP STL (Studio Transmitter Link) wireless radios into the WheatNet-IP Network. It serves as a translator between high-quality studio networks like WheatNet-IP and low-bandwidth STL connectivity options, such as IP radios. Positioned typically at the studio, the EDGE BLADE interfaces with IP wireless radios or leased lines to provide point-to-point connectivity. It manages data buffering to address latency variations typical in unlicensed IP radios, ensuring seamless communication between the studio and STL systems.
The M4IP-USB four channel mic processing Blade combines four high-quality microphone preamps, four channels of microphone processing, four independent USB ports, and a WheatNet IP Blade interface, allowing you to place four microphone inputs anywhere in your WheatNet IP audio network (although it also works just fine as a standalone processor). The preamps and processors are accessed and controlled from any point on the network.
The Aura8-IP Blade has eight fully independent multi-band stereo audio processors, all routable as part of the WheatNet IP audio network. Each processing chain consists of a 4-band parametric equalizer followed by a crossover and three bands of compression. The compressors each feed their own limiters, whose outputs are then fed to a broadband lookahead limiter for tight peak control. The Aura8-IP has its own local I/O, with four stereo pairs of AES digital audio and four stereo pairs of analog line level audio in and out, and can function as a standalone processing engine.
The 4RU StageBox One extends console I/O, providing 32 mic/line inputs, 16 analog line outputs, and 8 AES3 inputs and 8 AES3 outputs as well as 12 logic ports and dual Ethernet ports. Its heavy duty construction makes it adept for on-the-go applications, such as remote sporting events. StageBox One works with all WheatNet IP audio networked consoles.
The IP88 Console Blade comes standard with L-8, L-12, IP-12 and IP-16 console surfaces for mix engine functions as well as I/O. A single-rack IP88 Console Blade is all that is needed for many studio operations. Busy studios that require additional I/O can upgrade to the IP88CB32 model for double the amount of I/O in 2RU.
All Console Blades are AES67 compatible to bring audio from other AES67-compatible devices and signals into and out of the WheatNet IP audio network.
The IP883E/IP884E Mix Engine Blade for LXE and GSX console surfaces, Glass LXE and Remote LXE/GSX interfaces houses all the mixing functions and provides essential distribution of the four stereo program buses, four stereo AUX sends, per-channel mix-minus feeds, monitor outputs, and other bus signals to the WheatNet IP audio network. Once on the network, bus signals are available as sources and destinations anywhere. This creates an extremely flexible system in which program outputs from one surface can be sources on any other surface; for example, a news mixer’s program bus can be brought up as a source on the air studio surface. While the IP883E/IP884E doesn’t house audio I/O, it does include 12 universal logic (GPIO) ports for interfacing various external switches, indicators and devices for control purposes.
The third-generation IP883E Mix Engine is AES67 compatible, and the fourth generation IP884E Mix Engine is AES67 compliant for full interoperability with other AES67-compatible devices and systems.
The Blade 3 Redundant Power Supply is a single-rackspace unit that provides redundant DC power to up to four Blades. It connects via a multi-pin connector to the failsafe unit, and all necessary cables are included.
Optional Clip Player software is available for Blades, providing audio clip player with clip list management and audio storage.
