RADIO MARS ON SOCCER AND STUDIOS

A01 - Radio Mars

Morocco is a country passionate about soccer. It is a nation with “37 million coaches” and a radio station almost exclusively dedicated to the sport. Here is a look inside Radio Mars’ new WheatNet IP audio facility in Casablanca, which now serves as the nerve center for a nation passionate about soccer.

Radio Mars covers all Moroccan soccer news, with broadcasting rights for Botola (the country’s professional soccer league), as well as national team matches. As a station that covers hundreds of live sporting events each year, often with up to 25 correspondents broadcasting simultaneously from different stadiums, Radio Mars packs a lot of efficiency in two studios. The studios independently manage two programs, one for FM and one for audio streaming, each with their own advertising spots.

At the center of the studios are 16-fader GSX IP audio consoles that simultaneously feed 34 FM transmitters across Morocco and 10,000 online subscribers. The GSX’s programmable buttons allow operators to easily switch between online or on-air broadcasting, simultaneously or independently, with separate advertising blocks. In the field, reporters and sports commentators use Tieline ViA codecs and the Report-IT mobile app, which are linked to the Tieline Merlin Plus codec in the TOC. The codecs integrate tightly with the WheatNet IP audio network.

The project was managed by our integration partner SAVE Diffusion in France and required the installation of almost five miles of cabling to support a fully digital and interconnected facility. The WinMedia automation suite as an extension of WheatNet IP is used for production, scheduling, and broadcasting. Each studio has PTZ cameras controlled by Blackmagic ATEM automation, which is tightly integrated with the AoIP system to automate panning, switching, and live recording during broadcasts.

Programs are produced in French, Arabic, and Amazigh, and are aimed at both local listeners and the Moroccan diaspora around the world.

Completed last March, the new studios were ready for the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which took place in Morocco and was a source of great pride for the Radio Mars team.

Radio Mars’ new studios were originally featured in the RedTech September/October 2025 issue.
