A01-Our-Official-CES

OUR OFFICIAL CES LIVE-LAUNCH INTO A NEW YEAR!

You might have slept right through the Times Square ball drop—or the MoonPie drop, giant pickle drop, boot drop, or whatever else they drop on New Year’s Eve. But if you’re into audio as much as we are, you were wide awake for last week’s CES and taking in all the shiny new tech about to descend upon consumers, a.k.a. your listeners. It’s the one event we can count on to set the course for our next year in broadcasting (which, by the way, is year number 52 for Wheatstone). Here are our five takeaways from this year’s CES that directly affect broadcasting as we know it.
The MAD DASH is ON

THE MAD DASH IS ON

Self-driving automobiles are ramping up. Nvidia introduced a family of AI technology aimed at autonomous driving and all the major automakers at CES 2026 were on board for AI. “Every single car will have autonomous vehicle capability, and every single car will be AI powered,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during his keynote speech at CES 2026. You know where this is going, right? Fewer eyes on the road and a whole lot more entertainment on the dash ...
MetaData as the Second Language

THE META OF DATA

You don’t have to attend CES to know that undergirding all the above is metadata. It’s the contextual glue for AI, social media, devices, data, and data about data! If you’re planning to stick around for any kind of future, you need metadata ...
Musical Chairs, AI Songs, and Singing Lollipops?

MUSICAL CHAIRS, AI SONGS AND SINGING LOLLIPOPS?

The writing is on the wall, as they say. Music is now on every device we carry around. It’s on apps, in phones, and it’s coming from Alexa, Siri, you name it. This CES, we learned about stringless smart guitars,"sound chairs" with built-in audio, and a lollipop that plays music through your teeth (we can’t make this stuff up). As for music discovery, we learned that Spotify’s Smart Shuffle is taking that to a whole new level by adding AI generated songs to playlists. So much new and exciting consumer technology is just ahead on the horizon and we have to wonder: Can all that cool tech be useful to broadcasters, too? ...
Modern OLEDs

OLEDS. IT’S KIND OF A THING.

We couldn’t help but notice that OLED TVs with brighter panels and thin profiles were a big deal at this CES. We don’t always jump the audio fence, but since we’ve been designing with OLEDs for some time, we had to stop for a beat and call out our engineers ...
Open Earbuds Are Everywhere

OPEN EARBUDS ARE EVERYWHERE, SO LISTEN UP!

You know those novel clip-on or wrap-around earbuds people are wearing at the gym? They just transitioned from a niche fitness accessory to everyday use, if CES 2026 is any indication. As many of you know, open-ear headphones don’t sit directly on the ear canal, which makes them especially useful for balancing streamed programming with situational awareness—like when you’re listening to your favorite radio program, and you can still hear when they call out your Starbucks order or that your flight is now boarding ...
