IT’S ALL IN THE NETWORK

Networking doesn’t get much better than at Lagardère Radio in France. Virtually the entire radio operation is interconnected by WheatNet IP consoles, virtual interfaces, and AoIP, with programming distributed via virtualized µMPX into towerCast antenna sites throughout France.

Lagardère Radio recently completed the transformation from analog to full AoIP in more than 30 local and regional studios. Any studio can now broadcast to all five time zones simultaneously, yet air local news and operate independently. By removing geographic boundaries between studios, presenters can broadcast live from any studio for any station, plus share news, ads, and other resources for any or all regions.

The French media group broadcasts two nationwide radio networks to more than 11 million listeners a week, with Europe 2 contemporary music operating out of 22 studios and 14 news booths and RFM pop music operating out of 11 studios and four news booths.

OK Screen ImageOur technology partners at SAVE Diffusion WheatNet IP’d the studios, installing L-12 consoles and Blade I/O access units connected with Tieline codecs for each studio. Blade 4 units with ScreenBuilder software host custom touchscreens for news booths at Europe 2 and RFM. SAVE integrated into the system aptX links using Tieline Bridge XTRA codecs, virtualized ad distribution, and µMPX signal generation for transport to tower sites.

Along with the two nationwide radio networks, Lagardère Radio delivers 30 local programs, 50 news segments, and 100 different ad feeds to 150 transmission points in the TowerCast broadcast transmission services network across France.
