NEW BERN, NC, USA – The possibility of a studio failure such as losing a network switch or mix engine during a live show or on-air broadcast is what keeps broadcasters up at night.
Introducing two new additions to Wheatstone’s fourth generation Blade architecture for uninterrupted studio availability in the event of either.
For its I/O Blade 4 access units that make up the WheatNet IP audio network, Wheatstone introduces hitless path redundancy featuring dual Ethernet ports with data continuously running over both simultaneously. If one path goes down, it’s business as usual with zero downtime and zero packet loss, automatically.
For its Blade 4 mix engines that run its LXE and Strata consoles and surfaces, Wheatstone introduces an automatic failover option featuring dual mix engines synchronized in real-time. A high-frequency “heartbeat” between mirrored primary and backup mix engines detects the slightest change and triggers an instantaneous failover to the backup unit for rapid recovery and seamless, uninterrupted service in the event of a failure. Because the backup is synchronized with the main unit in real-time, failover is immediate (less than a half second, hardly detected as an interruption) — unlike failing over to a hot standby, which causes an interruption in service while switching to the backup.
With these new fail-safe additions to Wheatstone’s fourth generation Blade architecture, WheatNet IP audio networked facilities remain operational during critical failures that could cause interruptions in broadcasts, cash flow and business as usual.
Wheatstone will be demonstrating Blade 4 I/O hitless path redundancy as well as console mix engine failover redundancy at booth C1051 during the NAB show.
