What to Expect at the Show

We've got an exciting show in store at NAB 2017!

We will be showing a new control surface/IP-network system design, and revealing major feature and software enhancements to its IP-64 live television console series. We will also have an at-home sports mixing setup live in the booth.

AES67 compatibility with third party equipment will be demonstrated, and new audio signal processing technology will be on display, in addition to established product designs for radio and television including digital audio consoles and control surfaces, networked audio systems, audio-over-IP, analog audio consoles, VoxPro7 audio editing hardware and software, and a complete line of audio signal processing for both on-air and studio applications.

Also shown will be Wheatstone GUI software for customized control and monitoring of extended network systems.

Finally, the PR&E line will be on display, perhaps with something new to show there!

Come to booth N6531 at NAB - you'll be happy you did!

The IP-Based Audio System and the At-Home Production Model

Owens

Sat. April 22

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

N258

Audio-over-IP (AoIP) is occupying a growing share of the audio landscape in broadcast facilities today. In fact, AoIP, in the form of AES67, is integral to the new SMPTE 2110 standard as the transport mechanism for audio. In the growing field of At-Home Production, where audio and video are gathered at the remote venue but mixed and processed at the "home" production facility, AoIP enables many efficiencies at both the venue and the head-end.

LonForPaper

Wheatstone's Phil Owens and Lon Neumann will discuss audio ingest and processing at the venue, creating a venue- side router matrix with integrated mixing and processing, and the ability to create near-zero latency IFB. Mechanisms for sending the venue audio in the form of multicast streams back to the head-end will be covered, as well as ways to extend control of the venue audio to the head-end production facility.

Program: Broadcast Engineering and Information Technology Conference (All)

Key Topic: The Move to IP

Presenters:

Phil Owens:
Phil is a system engineer for Wheatstone Corporation. He has been with the IP audio manufacturer for more than 19 years. In his current capacity with Wheatstone, he is responsible for specifying and proposing both TDM and IP audio systems for radio and television clients around the country.

Lon Neumann:
Lon Neumann is a sales engineer with Wheatstone specializing in IP audio systems for television broadcast. Lon has an extensive background in broadcast sound, serving as a technical consultant for THX, the Regional Manager/Field Applications Engineer for Linear Acoustic and a regional manager for NVISION. He a member of the Society of Television Engineers, SMPTE and AES, currently serving on the AES committee "Audio Guidelines For Over-the-Top and Video Streaming.”

Why 0.01% Distortion Sometimes Matters and 30% Often Doesn't

SteveDove Sun.  April 23,

1:30 pm.

N258

Audio engineer Steve Dove deconstructs the basic audio system used in broadcasting today, exposing mis-attributions, fondly-held fallacies, innocently acquired 'common sense' and 'conventional wisdom', and highlights some startling counter-intuitive realities. It's astonishing we ever manage to make anything work!

Program: Broadcast Engineering and Information Technology Conference (All)

Key Topic: Developments in Audio (7.1 and beyond, object-oriented coding)

Presenter: Steve Dove
Steve Dove is Wheatstone’s "Minister of Algorithms" instrumental in developing the audio algorithms used in the company’s AoIP as well as audio processing product lines. He was on the team that developed the technology that made it possible for Wheatstone to introduce a true IP audio console, the industry's first, and for Wheatstone to put audio and the control for audio on one Ethernet cable for end-to-end control and AoIP interoperability. Steve was part of the AES task force that resulted in the AES67 standard.

Extending the IP Audio Network Across a WAN

Dave Breithaupt

Tue. April 25

2:00 PM - 2:30 PM

N258

Emerging trends in communications are making it practical to extend the IP audio network across a private wide area network (WAN) for fixed radio networks or for recurring remotes at a particular sports or entertainment venue. Wheatstone's Breithaupt details IP audio network configurations and workflows, and discusses the role of standards such as AES67 and AES70 in the WAN environment. He covers long-haul connectivity options such as dark fiber, telco ATM, MPLS circuits and leased Ethernet for true 10Gig connectivity. Finally, he gives real-world examples of extending the AoIP over a WAN, both for short-term use and for longer term with programming automated, stored and played back at remote, hard to reach transmitter sites.
